Nikon Cameras, lenses, speedlights, Elinchrom and Alien Beees lighting, F-Stop camera bags and Taylor Made R7 Driver/3 Wood, Wilson Staff Irons, Tommy Armour wedges.

What got you started shooting? How many years has it been now?

I always had some interest in photography since grade school, I thought cameras were cool. I got my first camera in college, which was 12 years ago. I've been shooting full-time for 8 years now.

bssmithscanLets start off with the basics, your name, your age, and your home base?

My name is Andrew Norton, I am 22 years young and I live in Toronto.

What got you started in photography? When & why did you pick up your first camera?

I got started shooting photos by picking up my dad’s old SLR camera that was sitting in the closet collecting dust. It was a Nikon FE and it had a 50mm 1.8 lens (still use that thing now). That camera had no shutter speeds, it was basically always stuck on aperture priority which at first was good for messing around and learning on. Got a little tricky when I wanted to advance my skills a bit though. I just sort of did what everyone does when they start, shoot photos of things around me and try to re-create stuff I liked and figure out all the different functions of the camera.

I understand you went to school for photography in Toronto, did you stick that out? Do you think it benefited you at all?

aliknifemodName, Age and Where do you Currently Reside?

Antton Miettinen. Photos usually run by my first name. I´ll be 33 in a month and I've been living in Barcelona (Spain) for the past 7 years.

How long have you been shooting for?

I´ve been taking photos for 16 years, professionally 9

What did you first start out shooting, and how have you progressed over the years from that?

I first started shooting skating and snowboarding. Pretty soon afterwards I started to shoot other stuff as well; I had a few friends who were starting to make a living doing graphics/layouts/advertising, being around these guys and working with them had a huge impact on my photography. Obviously quality standard was a lot different in advertising stuff or with album cover work, but just to be around different influence and to have a different look on photography and commercialization of the craft was very eye opening. For me this was quite important, since I don't see myself as an artist, but 100% as a commercial photographer.

20070205_dc_self_009Lets start with the basics, where are you from, where do you live, how old are you, and how long have you been making it?

I call Vancouver home, but when the snow falls I head to Whistler for the winter. I turned 24 today, I hate getting older. However, its been a great year. I've been doing this thing professional for 3 or so years now and this year has been the best.

What type of gear do you typically take out with you on a shoot?

Typically I try not to load my pack up too much. I like to be able to ski and hike without having to compromise speed and fun. I shoot with a smaller body (D200 and more recently a D700) plus a fisheye, 80-200, 50, 28, and a tilt shift. I bring lights when I know I'll use them for sure, but thats not day to day.

If you weren't out shooting all the time what do you think you'd be doing with your time?

Hard to say. I would like to say I would be skiing and riding my bike, but its shooting that affords me the ability to be able to make a life in the mountains. I've been hacking away at a Political Science degree the last few years; I do that in the fall when its down season on the slopes.
