Camera Settings: iso 100, f8 1/250th
Camera Gear: Nikon D300, Nikon 10.5mm F2.8 Fisheye, 3x Nikon SB-80DX triggered by Pocketwizards.
Setup:
The set up for this photo, was relatively basic. I decided I wanted to shoot my main fill way above me, to light up the whole area, then use 2 flashes, one on either side of him to give the photo a bit more dynamics. When you start shooting the light from different angles you end up with a more 3 dimensional looking photo.
I started by measuring the sunset, which was roughly iso 100, F2.0 1/250th, so when I set my flashes up, I went for F8 (which is a full 4 stops more than the sunset)
A. I set the first flash about 10 feet back from the rail, and where the skater was going to be, I had this one fully zoomed in so that the light wouldn't spread out, and was very focused. The light from this flash was about iso 100, F11 where the skater was going to be, it was rougly at 1/16th or 1/32 power, and about chest height of the skater on the rail.
B. I set this flash up at the exact same height, and angle as A and the same distance from the rail. (Both A & B are just outside the edges of the photo). Again I zoomed B all the way in to 105mm, and had it at about 1/2 power in order to get the F11 iso 100.
C. This flash I had on full power, about 12 feet off the ground angled down, it's zoom was as wide as I could get it, which is about 24mm on the Nikon SB-80DX. When measured the power it gave was F8 at iso 100. It is the main fill in the camera, and it's the same settings that I put in my camera.
D. I was lying on the ground shooting up with a full frame fisheye. I had to be careful not to get a shadow from the light above me, and also to watch out for lens flare from the flashes A & B (having them zoomed in helped prevent the light from hitting my lens).
